Kodak Photo CD

CDAS/WEB-PCD:
Access Kodak Photo CDs via the World Wide Web using CDAS!

Advanced Mechatronic Services' CDAS/WEB-PCD is a hybrid CD-ROM file cataloging and retrieval software product that provides a common interface to a virtually unlimited number of Kodak Photo CD images stored in CD-ROM jukeboxes, CD-ROM towers and on magnetic caching disks or disk arrays. CDAS/WEB-PCD running on a Sun Microsystems server allows intranet or internet access from Netscape 2.0 or compatible WEB browsers running on Windows, Windows 95, Macintosh, and Unix platforms. Photo CD images may be browsed, selected, and downloaded by a click of the mouse.

CDAS/WEB-PCD Components

The CDAS/WEB-PCD system consists of a 3-tier hybrid configuration of CD-ROM jukeboxes, CD-ROM arrays and magnetic caching disk arrays, with a Sun Microsystems server running WEB server software (NCSA or Netscape), CDAS file cataloging and retrieval software and CDAS/WEB-PCD Photo CD WEB access software. CDAS is customer configurable and supports commerically available SCSI CD-ROM drives and Kubik Enterprises or NSM CD-ROM jukeboxes. A CDAS system may be started with as little as one 6 drive CD-ROM tower, and grow as the need arises, without having to replace your client or system software or retrain your users.

CDAS/WEB-PCD is a robust File Cataloging and Retrieval software package designed around SVR4 UNIX, using the operating system's native filesystem. Once Photo CD discs are imported into the system, images are available for access from online CD-ROM towers/arrays, from nearline jukeboxes and from fast magentic disk cache (may be SPARCstorage arrays on some SPARC configurations). When a Photo CD image is accessed from a CD-ROM it is transparently copied to magnetic disk cache and served at network speed. Previously accessed images are served from faster magnetic disk cache and will remain in cache until space is needed; at that time images with the "oldest last access" will be deleted.
